Revealed in Makkah amid a society that measured worth by wealth and tribe, the surah swears by time itself that this measure is a losing one.
It sets out, in the briefest form, the only path that escapes loss — a summary so complete that it became a cornerstone of the message.
It speaks to every human being caught in the passing of their own lifetime.
செல்வத்தாலும் கோத்திரத்தாலும் மனிதனின் மதிப்பை அளந்த ஒரு சமூகத்தின் நடுவே மக்காவில் இறக்கப்பட்ட இந்தச் சூரா, இந்த அளவுகோல் நட்டத்திற்குரியது என்று காலத்தையே முன்வைத்துச் சத்தியம் செய்கிறது.
நட்டத்திலிருந்து தப்பிக்கும் ஒரே பாதையை மிகச் சுருக்கமான வடிவில் இது எடுத்துரைக்கிறது — இச்செய்தியின் ஒரு அடிக்கல்லாக ஆகும் அளவுக்கு முழுமையான ஒரு சுருக்கம்.
தன் ஆயுட்காலம் கழிந்துகொண்டிருப்பதில் சிக்கியுள்ள ஒவ்வொரு மனிதனிடமும் இது பேசுகிறது.
“By time, indeed mankind is in loss” — as the moments of life drain away, everyone is on the losing side by default.
“Except those who believe and do righteous deeds” — faith and action are what turn loss into gain.
“…and encourage one another to truth and to patience” — and beyond saving oneself, one must help others hold to truth and endure.
“காலத்தின் மீது சத்தியமாக, திண்ணமாக மனிதன் நட்டத்தில் இருக்கிறான்” — வாழ்வின் கணங்கள் வடிந்து செல்லும்போது, இயல்பாகவே ஒவ்வொருவரும் நட்டப்படும் பக்கத்திலேயே இருக்கின்றனர்.
“ஈமான் கொண்டு நல்லறங்கள் செய்தவர்களைத் தவிர” — நம்பிக்கையும் செயலுமே நட்டத்தை லாபமாக மாற்றுபவை.
“…மேலும் சத்தியத்தையும் பொறுமையையும் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் உபதேசித்தவர்களைத் தவிர” — தன்னைக் காப்பாற்றிக்கொள்வதோடு நின்றுவிடாமல், சத்தியத்தில் நிலைத்திருக்கவும் தாங்கிக்கொள்ளவும் மற்றவர்களுக்கும் உதவ வேண்டும்.
