It portrays a type of person known in Makkah: one who denied the Day of Judgement and so felt free to be cruel and stingy.
Narrations name figures who pushed away orphans and refused the poor; the surah makes their inner denial visible through their outward behaviour.
The later verses turn to hypocrites whose prayer is empty show, disconnected from mercy.
“Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?” — real belief in accountability changes how we treat people.
“That is the one who drives away the orphan and does not urge feeding the poor” — denying the Judgement shows up as hardness to the weak.
“Woe to those who pray, yet are heedless of their prayer — who only show off and withhold small kindnesses” — worship without compassion is hollow.
